Comhar SDC's role is to;
- Advise Government on policies which support sustainable development
- Engage with wider stakeholders and public to win support for sustainable
development
- Add value to existing work being done by other bodies or organisations,
and avoid duplicating that work
- Assess the policy relevance of issues in order to position itself at the
developmental end of policy
- Use its unique nature and the strength of its broad representation to come
to informed and balanced perspectives and recommendations.
Our current
work programme is available below. Some of the projects we are working on now
are;
- Green New Deal: To provide concrete recommendations on implementation of a Green New Deal in several areas for Ireland that will focus on moving the Irish economy and society to a sustainable path.
- Biodiversity Indicators: To develop a comprehensive set of biodiversity indicators for Ireland for use with the
National Biodiversity Strategy and in raising awareness of biodiversity
- Sustainable Development Indicators: To develop a comprehensive and integrated sustainable development indicator (SDI) set for Ireland for use with the National Sustainable Development Strategy and to develop a headline indicator set for Comhar SDC to be published annually to raise awareness of sustainable development.
- Green Infrastructure: To develop guidance and tools for development of green infrastructure for use by local and regional authorities in planning and development and ensure widespread dissemination and uptake.

Local Sustainability Newsletter: To provide a platform for information sharing for local authorities and provide inofrmation on local sustainability projects.
