Comhar SDC The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity Conference

Comhar SDC would like to invite you to attend a conference on The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity on the 24th June 2010.  

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) study is a major international initiative to draw attention to the global economic benefits of biodiversity, to highlight the growing costs of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation, and to draw together expertise from the fields of science, economics and policy to advance practical action to address the biodiversity crisis.

The conference will commence at 10.30 am in the Clarion Hotel, IFSC, Dublin and the draft Conference Programme is attached. TEEB team members will present their findings in a plenary session.  This will be followed by workshop sessions which will consider the transferability of TEEB approach, findings and recommendations to Ireland and produce recommendations and ideas for next steps.

In order to reserve a place at this conference, please complete the Conference Registration Form in the Events section of the website. The closing date for receipt of completed Registration Forms is Friday 11th June 2010.  As places are limited, please register before this date to secure a place.

Press Release- New Irish-Language TV Series to Focus on Sustainability Issues

‘An Bealach Glas’ is a four-part series, produced by El Zorerro Films with support from the Comhar Sustainable Development Media Fund. The series follows the lives of various individuals involved in sustainable pursuits in Ireland. The first episode of ‘An Bealach Glas’ will be broadcast next Monday, 31st May, at 6.50pm on TG4. The series will run for four consecutive evenings, broadcasting at the same time each evening, and concluding on Thursday, 3rd June.

Sustainable Schools Online Conference 2010


The Sustainable Schools Conference is the successful national teacher’s conference from SEEd, DCSF and WWF-UK. The conference will be delivered by SEEd, a UK charity helping to drive Education for Sustainable Development and Environmental Education into all schools and education establishments. This year, they are offering this stand alone online conference for those who cannot travel to the locations or who cannot get a whole day away from their education work. The conference will be hosted by Ann Finlayson, CEO of SEEd. The online conference features facilitated workshops, discussions, key note speeches (including Jonathon Porritt), networking opportunities and market places.

The conference follows the Sustainable Schools Framework and this year is based around 6 themes:
  1. Engaging young people in sustainability
  2. Linking sustainability with biodiversity – International Year of Biodiversity
  3. Climate change & Energy commitments
  4. Outcomes for children & young people – the evidence
  5. Leading sustainable schools
  6. Linking to extended schools
